POLST is a program which allows patients to choose among very specific types of lifesaving treatments for themselves, in advance of actual need. In this first segment, Dr. James Mittleberger, a geriatrician and palliatiative care specialist discusses CA POLST program and its implications with Judy Citko, JD, the Executive Director of the California Coalition for Compassionate Care. The second segment shows CA POLST in action, how the patients’ wishes follow them through the healthcare system. The last segment , Dr. Jeff Yee models how physicians have the POLST conversation with a patient.
